I get so excited for fall season every year when my family gives me an abundant amount of persimmons.
These sweet delectable fruits can be eaten at any ripeness texture from firm (like an apple) to soft (ripe mango). When they get overly ripe (water balloon soft), this is when we like to use them in smoothies and in baking, because of its moisture and sweetness that can be added as a nice flavor ingredient to a recipe. I will share with you one of my favorite persimmon bread recipe that everyone in my family digs (soon to come).

When I was younger, my family used to have two persimmon trees in our backyard, that would bear many fruits and we would happily give them out to our family and friends. I remember one time when my mom would cut them up for me and while I was eating it, it felt very dry, hairy, starchy, weird feeling on my tongue. This is because some of the persimmons you get might be astringent when it’s not nearly ripe enough and still a bit firm. When it gets closer to ripeness, then the weird feeling will diminish and it turns to sweet and juicy texture. As an adult, I have learned to like it and now I love it, because of its array of things you can do with it and all the health benefits that comes with it.
My husband likes it better when it’s a bit firm and most of the time we get lucky when it’s nice and sweet. I personally like it when it just becomes ripen, it gets sweet and juicy. These persimmons can get overly ripe, like I mentioned above and it’s really hard to manage which will ripen the next day, because they can ripen that fast. Not to worry, there are so many recipes you can try out that are perfect for ripe persimmons. The riper it is, the more moisture and sweeter it becomes, which is perfect for baking and smoothies.
I made all of those persimmons food items in the picture above, because we just kept getting so many persimmons ripening each day. They were all delicious! Out of all of those, the persimmon bread was probably my favorite, but I love them all….. they’re so good in everything, even by itself. I have made the persimmon bread numerous times and have tweaked with the recipe until it was perfect! I think it’s my favorite fall fruit and am looking forward to it every time.
I hope you get a chance to experience the many types of recipes you can get out of this wonderful fruit.
